10th Annual Demidov Summer Course Concludes with a Historic Celebration in London

The International Demidov Association is delighted to announce the successful completion of the 10th Annual Demidov Summer Course, held June 22–27, 2026, at Rudolf Steiner House in London.
Marking both the tenth anniversary of the Summer Course and its return to an on-site format after five years online, this historic gathering brought together an extraordinary international ensemble of actors and theatre artists for six days of intensive exploration under the theme “The Culture of Freedom.”
A Decade of Development
The Demidov Summer Course was established in 2017 as part of the International Demidov Summer School in Pushchino, Russia. It later moved to the Stanislavsky House-Museum in Moscow before continuing online beginning in 2020, bringing together actors, directors, and teachers from around the world while preserving the continuity of Demidov’s work through the pandemic years.
Its return to an on-site format in London marked not only a homecoming to the shared studio environment so central to Demidov’s approach, but also an important milestone in the continuing international development of the Demidov School of Acting.
The Culture of Freedom
Throughout thirty-six hours of practical studio work, participants explored one of Nikolai Demidov’s central artistic principles: the Culture of Freedom.
Rather than treating freedom as unrestricted expression, the course examined Demidov’s understanding of freedom as the actor’s ability to live truthfully and involuntarily within imagined circumstances—free from anticipation, imitation, preconception, and self-conscious control. Through Demidov’s unique system of etudes, text work, and monologue exploration, participants developed greater emotional responsiveness, imaginative vitality, and trust in their own creative nature.
An Extraordinary International Ensemble
This anniversary edition brought together an exceptionally rich and diverse ensemble of artists from the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Greece, Egypt, and Hong Kong. Their courage, generosity, emotional openness, curiosity, and unwavering commitment to artistic exploration created an atmosphere in which profound creative discoveries became possible.
Again and again throughout the week, it became clear that the quality of a Summer Course is determined not only by its curriculum, but also by the people who bring it to life.

The successful completion of the 10th Annual Demidov Summer Course reaffirms the International Demidov Association’s commitment to preserving, developing, and advancing the artistic legacy of Nikolai Demidov through rigorous training, international collaboration, and the cultivation of a worldwide community of artists dedicated to organic acting.
